Before we start with any experiments we have to consider and dwell on the importance of observation as the basic skill of all scientists.
We have to remember that at this stage it is important for the child to enjoy what he is doing. We are not teaching him definitions or complex formulas, we are simply introducing him to ideas which he should have every opportunity to explore and have fun developing.
It is important to show the child the results can be recorded eg. drawings, photographs, graphs or stickers.
The objective is to stimulate the child's interest and to get him to ask questions - Why? When? How?
Practical life activities form a link with the home as they are all functions that the child has seen many times. They build up a feeling of independence as the child learns to do things for himself. They enhance fine motor development and they develop concentration.
