Early childhood forms the basis of all subsequent development. Psychologists such as Freud, Erikson and Bloom have researched the influence of early childhood and have stressed its significance in the overall development of the Adult.
Our aim is to provide educational assistance to parents in the education of their young children, and to provide a framework for the overall development of the child as a whole person. This development takes place in five broad (and often overlapping) areas.
We have two music specialists who visit our school on a weekly basis. Music is offered to every child in the main school, and is included in the school fees. The music programme includes classical music and playing instruments.
The music programme is based largely on the development of the listening skills through movement and will afford your child the opportunity to physically experience Classical Music in a very fun-filled way, and make it an essential part of his existence.
During the year, your child will be introduced to approximately 20 pieces of music written by well known composers. Each of these pieces of music will, once the story has been outlined, be dramatized by your child and will be revised at a later stage through instrumental play. Every week a large number of masks, wigs, hats, fantasy clothes and other accessories will be made available to enable your child to fantasize around the music and express himself to the full. His urgent need to fantasize and socialize in a group in an orderly way will, to a large extent, be satisfied in this music appreciation class.
Music within a relaxed framework enriches our children's lives. It helps them to discover the good in themselves and in others. It nurtures an understanding and acceptance for one another. We as parents must ensure that our children make this invaluable gift their own!
The informal approach to Pre-Primary teaching is aimed at offering the child maximum opportunity for self discovery within a planned physical environment. The child and the teacher are both actively involved in the teaching and learning event. Within limits, the child is free to explore and master relevant learning material and finally evaluate the outcome himself. The teacher has a personal democratic relationship with each child, so that she can plan the content of teaching to meet individual needs. Our open plan school is ideally suited to this teaching method.
